With patina art the artist uses a torch to change the color of the metal. The metal is the canvas and the torch is the paintbrush. The paint color is how close or far the torch is from the metal. Angling the torch is like angling a paintbrush, the edge of the flame produces a different color and line shape then the flame cone in the middle which is the hottest point.
