Custom Water Feature Glass Types

Laminated Glass

Two or more sheets of glass put together with a clear or colored inner layer to create a laminated safety glass. The inner layer can be a variety of thicknesses and can be combined with colors or rice paper to give the resulting glass different architectural or lighting possibilities. The inner layer is most commonly polyvinyl butyral or PVB, which in most cases absorbs over 98% of the UV region.

Float Glass

Float glass is made by melting glass and feeding a thin layer onto a tank of molten tin in a nitrogen atmosphere. The glass flattens out forming a perfectly smooth glossy surface on both sides with an even thickness. This allows the production of smooth clear window glass very economically. Float glass panels heated and then cooled rapidly in a controlled environment. This process makes the glass several times stronger than regular glass. It also makes it safer because when broken it yields small pebble-like fragments which adds an added safety element to the custom water feature.
